A group of students from the "Master of Science in Wine Management" program of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine recently concluded their study trip to Yantai, where they immersed themselves in the local wine industry by visiting several renowned wineries, wine enterprises, and universities, witnessing firsthand the thriving development of the region's wine sector.
Their first stop was the Changyu Wine Culture Museum, where they learned about Yantai's century-long history in the wine industry, its terroir advantages, and Changyu's efforts to cater to younger consumers.
Following that, they went on to visit Chateau Changyu-Castel, Chateau Tinlot, and Chateau Koya Brandy, where the students sampled a variety of fine wines including Cabernet Sauvignon and brandy, and savored the delicious flavors of Shandong cuisine.
The next day, the students traveled to the renowned Penglai district, known as one of the "Seven Great Grape Coasts of the World". They visited Longting Vineyard, Chateau Junding, and the Qiushan Valley Visitor Service Center, gaining new insight into innovative practices such as digital planting management and biodynamic cultivation.
In addition to wineries, the students also visited the new campus of Yantai University in the Huang-Bohai Sea New Area, engaging in discussions with faculty and students from the School of Life Sciences on topics such as consumer trends, industry policies, and the quality characteristics of Chinese wines.
This study trip left the students deeply impressed by the elegant and delicate style of Yantai's wine region and the innovative spirit of its winemakers. They look forward to China producing more internationally competitive premium wines in the future, showcasing the unique charm of the local terroir.
